2019 Legislative Priorities
Priority Classification: Infrastructure
Issue: The Chamber EDC will advocate for legislation that would allow communities the ability to implement a tax/street utility fee for use in the funding of infrastructure maintenance and development.
Priority Classification: Workforce
Issue: Support legislation that would provide our region’s employers and workforce improved access to quality, affordable behavioral health services and resources.
- Advocate for maintaining the funding of the North Dakota State Water Commission through the Resources Trust Fund, including Oil Extraction Tax levels, to ensure adequate water infrastructure in the Bismarck-Mandan region.
- The Chamber EDC supports the creation of alternative transportation options that encourages development in the Bismarck-Mandan region.
Support the following initiatives that address workforce shortages in high-demand fields:
- Increase capacity to produce additional opportunities for internships and hands-on experience to positively affect both career readiness and workforce gaps.
- Sustain and enhance workforce readiness programming provided through the North Dakota Department of Commerce, area colleges/universities and other organizations to increase the opportunity for outreach and education of in-demand careers.
Behavioral Health/Health Care
Support efforts to sustain Medicaid Expansion to ensure access to services and to mitigate increased expense to businesses.
Support economic development programs and incentives that enhance the ability of North Dakota and Bismarck-Mandan to be competitive in the attraction and retention of talent and enterprise.
