MAKE YOUR MARK is a Chamber EDC initiative that addresses the ongoing workforce challenges facing Bismarck-Mandan. As out region’s thriving economy continues to grow, so does our community’s need to attract and retain a talented workforce.
As a way promote the many professional opportunities we have in our community, the Chamber EDC has developed a series of workforce development initiatives to highlight the Bismarck-Mandan community and the career options available. These initiatives include the annual Student Job Shadow Week, Educator Workshop and talent attraction and retention efforts focused on our region’s most in-demand occupations. So, whether you’re a Bismarck-Mandan resident or thinking of becoming one, we invite you all to MAKE YOUR MARK!

Info for Students and Parents
Did you know you can find career opportunities in all types of businesses, large and small, throughout the Bismarck-Mandan? You can receive training for many of those careers here in our community, with some great careers requiring just one year of training after high school graduation.
The Chamber EDC team has compiled a variety of resources for students (and parents!) to explore as they plan for their future career. If you’re looking for a valuable education and exciting career, Bismarck-Mandan is the community for you.
Careers by Education is a publication of the North Dakota Career and Technical Education that details a wide range of careers and the training required. Included are examples of the work done by each occupation, the total openings in North Dakota for those listed occupations and the average wage. The number of openings and wages are based on 2013 information, so keep in mind the wages today would likely be higher in the examples provided.
The Youth & Careers section of the North Dakota Department of Commerce's Workforce Development website offers resources for those interested in learning more about the careers and opportunities in North Dakota. Bismarck-Mandan's employers are seeking team members of all skill levels and you’ll find many opportunities to start your career.
Youth Forward is anything and everything that connects people ages 14-24 (and their parents or guardians) to a future in North Dakota. Youth Forward offers resources for exploring careers, planning your education, finding an internship and more.
Career Conversations connects students, parents, and educators to professionals with perspectives on life in high-demand careers. Professionals from across North Dakota are featured in short videos profiling their occupations, how they started their careers, and advice for student’s interested pursuing a similar career.
Registered Apprenticeship provides training for people in a variety of occupations that require a diverse skillset. Registered Apprenticeship combines supervised, paid, on-the-job training with technical classroom studies in subjects related to the apprentice's occupation.
Careers in North Dakota is a Job Service North Dakota publication that outlines career opportunities in the state, including employment projections, wages, core tasks, work activities, skillsets and typical education/training requirements. Those occupations that are in-demand and high compensation are noted.
The Bank of North Dakota offers an online College Planning Center with information for students - middle school, high school, college, and non-traditional - and parents, guardians, and grandparents. You can explore occupations, learn about careers that you may not have been aware of and research programs to pay or save for college.
