1. That it retain its traditional culture and rural values, beautiful landscapes and friendly neighborliness, while becoming a world leader in energy production, with clean abundant energy assisting in the growth of light manufacturing and other economic sectors.

2. My training, experience and aptitude qualify me for this job. Beyond serving in the state Senate, I've been a Civics teacher and historian. I have a broad knowledge of Senate procedures and history, and the significance of the position. The Fargo Forum says I'm articulate and skilled at debate and those are skills a U.S. Senator should have.

3. The biggest short-term challenge facing the nation is fostering the economic recovery. The long-term challenge, every bit as significant, is to rein in spending and cut the deficit. The two challenges are somewhat in conflict, as efforts to balance the budget immediately with tax increases or dramatic spending cuts would stifle recovery, but the long-term health of the nation requires a balanced budget.

4. There is tremendous opportunity for our nation to lead the world in the development of sustainable energy for the 21st Century. Technological leadership will answer the challenge of our fiscal crisis, because economic growth is the only way to deal with the deficit, which has exploded in the last decade.

5. It is here to stay and is already more important in many ways than traditional methods of communication and advertising. It has the potential to undercut censorship and news manipulation of totalitarian regimes. It brings people together.

1. My vision is to help continue North Dakota's growth by working on policies that will strengthen the national economy and foster job growth.

2. I have a strong record of helping to create jobs in ND. Since 2000, we've gained nearly 40,000 new jobs and our income and wages continue to grow faster than the national average. By creating a good business environment and a growing economy, we've not only created more opportunity for our people, we've also created a strong financial foundation for our state, invested in priorities like education, and cut taxes.

3. The biggest challenge will be making the hard decisions to help get our national deficits and debt under control. We must get our national economy growing again, get people back to work, and start living within our means.

4. Creating a business climate that fosters growth. By adding jobs and growing our economy, we can generate the revenue we need to fund our priorities and balance the budget. That means creating a favorable business climate like the one in ND, with more legal, tax and regulatory certainty, so businesses can invest and hire people. We must do better creating a responsible, dependable business environment at all levels of government to get our economy moving again, and get people back to work.

5. Social media is an important way to connect with constituents to share our positive message for the future of our state and country, as well as a way to gather ideas and input.

1. I think North Dakota is doing a lot of things right, but there are things that could be improved. It's the hard working people of this state that make it great, not the government or politicians. Government's only proper role should be to protect people against violence and fraud. I envision a ND that is an epicenter for liberty where the individual is free to live their life how they want as long as they don't interfere with others' rights to do the same.

2. I'm not a career politician. I'm a regular working class citizen just trying to scrape by on half of what I could be earning because taxes at all levels of government confiscate 50% of my income. I don't feel any less qualified than the other candidates because being a U.S. Senator is a whole lot different than being a state governor or state representative. The learning curve will be steep for whoever wins the election.

3. The biggest challenge is in reducing the size and scope of the federal government, because once a government program is created, those that benefit will fight tooth and nail to keep it.

4. The biggest opportunity is being in a position to liberate our kids, grandkids, and great grandkids from the burden of big government.

5. I think social media is great. I have really enjoyed Facebook for allowing me to keep in touch with old classmates and college friends. It's also provided my campaign with an affordable way to get some exposure.
