1. Our state is continuing to grow and evolve from an agricultural state to a state that relies on a combination of agriculture, agribusiness, energy, manufacturing, and business economies. My vision sees continued growth, development, and diversification in these areas, while maintaining the quality of life that we are proud to have. The Legislature can continue to provide the tools for progress in these areas, solve problems that occur with growth, and maintain a balance between the need for government services and the costs to provide them.

2. I am seeking re-election for my fourth 4-year term in the House of Representatives for District 47. My broad background and experience as a lawyer, businessman, civic leader, community volunteer, and legislator have provided me with the skills and qualifications necessary to meet the social and economic challenges of the future.

3. The biggest challenge is to maintain the expanding growth in our economy, while meeting the development problems that occur in infrastructure needs, demands for housing, maintenance of roads and highways, improvement of alternatives for access to markets, and the training and education of our citizens for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

4. We have the opportunity to improve the quality of life for our citizens, while streamlining the costs associated with running a government. We need a lean and efficient government at all levels.

5. Facebook and Twitter may have their place, but I'd rather meet people face to face.

1. North Dakota leads the nation in fiscal responsibility and quality government. North Dakota is the envy of other states. We need to continue to position North Dakota for sound growth.

2. Proven Leadership. My 17 years in the legislature, my position as Chairman of Industry, Business and Labor, my past experience as a City Commissioner, owning a business and my community involvement have provided a training ground for setting policies at the legislative level.

3. Maintaining and improving the economic condition of North Dakota. We need to continue to develop high paying jobs and at the same time properly deal with problems which arise with rapid growth. We need to find the proper funding solutions for the Red River flooding, Devils Lake, the oil patch infrastructure, property tax relief, higher education, elementary education and setting aside money for our children and our grandchildren.

4. Our projected surplus combined with good fiscal management. As in the last legislative session, our state has the opportunity to position itself for the future. While other state budgets are imploding, North Dakota can develop a plan for a strong, robust future. North Dakota has the opportunity to become the state where current businesses want to expand, new businesses want to locate, people want to live, work and raise families.

5. I believe social media offers great opportunities for communication, access and efficiency. However, it also offers opportunities for incomplete information and misinformation. As with all technology, the public has an obligation to understand its proper use versus misuse.
