1. As Sheriff my primary goal for the county and the state is to make sure we have a safe place to live, work and recreate. We accomplish this by being tough on crime and making sure we are removing people who wish to hinder our community with crime.
2. I am a lifelong Bismarck resident with a Bachelor's and Master Degree in Management from the University of Mary. I am also a graduate of the School of Police Staff and Command, as well as a recent graduate of the National Sheriff's Institute.
3. Currently the Burleigh County Detention Center is housing inmates at near capacity. We need to work with Morton County and the cities of Bismarck and Mandan to develop a regional philosophy on how we are going to be housing inmates in the future.
4. I believe we live in the best part of the State and Country. We are in the heart of the area that is best suited for development of the oil industry. We are seeing almost every day growth in our community, our economy is strong and we have jobs available. I think we are very lucky to be here in Burleigh County, North Dakota.
5. I think social media is great for those who want to be part of it. However, I also believe social media is changing our world daily. I have concerns about addictions to social media and from a criminal justice point of view; I am very concerned about the luring that has been taking place over this form of communications.

1. A county that has safe neighborhoods, drug-free communities, and strong partnerships with community leaders, schools and families.
2. My qualifications are my life experiences such as being raised in a rural community, serving in the U.S. Air Force Military Police, 12 yrs. as a dedicated officer for Burleigh County, and 4 yrs. as sheriff. As sheriff I took an antiquated Department and greatly improved technology and daily operations, enjoyed interacting with the public on a daily basis, and diligently strove to ensure the safety of the citizens.
3. Rural expansion is our biggest challenge. Due to the rapid growth of new developments, we must improve efficiencies in patrol, increase crime prevention efforts, and be highly visible in these communities.
4. Networking. To build a stronger connection with the citizens, to partnership more closely with various organizations, school and businesses, and to work in conjunction w/other service providers in order to improve services and preserve public safety.
5. The disadvantage is possible life-threatening dangers, such as motorists who are distracted while utilizing blackberries and cell phones. Also, limited control over your message; the credibility of info presented is questionable; and personal info is provided too readily at times. If used properly, the advantages are instant communication, a positive networking tool, and the ability to attain valuable information.
