1. As a life-long resident of North Dakota, my vision is to help our state capitalize upon the great economic benefits from our booming oil development, which has brought serious housing, road, infrastructure, law enforcement, social and other effects --challenges that we must deal with responsibly. As ND's AG, I will strive to insure the necessary economic growth derived from our energy riches is supported and sustained by timely action directed toward these challenges -- challenges which must not be postponed for another day.

2. I have had a diverse practice in the private sector for my entire 31-year legal career, representing businesses and individuals in commercial litigation, juveniles and adults in criminal cases, and businesses, political subdivisions and injured workers in civil litigation. I have been an operator of small businesses, serving as a partner in law firms in Fargo for 25 years. Since 1994, I have operated a sole-practitioner law firm, consistently having several employees at any one time. I know firsthand what it means to cash flow a small business, and the challenges of making payroll. In contrast, my opponent, who now seeks a fourth term in office, has been on the state payroll since the year 2000.

3. Addressing the challenges, I describe in No. 1. Challenges that stem from the fast-paced energy development we will continue to experience for the foreseeable future.

4. Serving as ND's AG during a period in time when broad-scale economic expansion driven by energy development will greatly increase economic opportunity and the standard of living for North Dakotans.

5. Social media undoubtedly have marketing potential, but unlike my opponent, I do not have Facebook or MySpace page.

1. North Dakota is fortunate to have resources and leadership -public and private-- that enabled us to withstand the national recession. We must build on our strengths through thoughtful and effective regulation and support. I see our state continuing to use our resources and our people to provide food for the world and energy for the country. We must maintain our status as consistently one of the nation's safest states.

2. Now, with ten years of experience as Attorney General, fighting the scourge of illegal drugs, domestic violence, the epidemic of Internet sex offenses, and serving as consumer watchdog, I believe I have the strengths needed to continue tackling our biggest problems. I've worked successfully to curtail meth labs, and to implement programs to reduce impaired driving and prescription drug abuse. I've worked diligently on efforts to catch and prosecute sex offenders.

3. From the criminal justice perspective, we are seeing prescription drug abuse is growing at an alarming rate. Impaired driving is a constant problem. Internet crimes are ever-increasing, especially sexual exploitation. But we've made good headway and will do more.

4. We are fortunate to have hard working and law-abiding citizens. We are blessed with natural resources and a low crime rate. We need to continue addressing the challenges above, and build on our successes.

5. I've outlined above some of the perils we face with the internet, but I also recognize the new age of connecting through social media plays an important role in today's world.
