Franchise Seminar Scheduled for June 25 Posted on 6/5/2012
The Mandan Tomorrow - Economic Opportunity and Prosperity Committee is coordinating a free training session targeted towards entrepreneurial development and franchisees on Monday, June 25, at the Seven Seas Inn, Mandan. Speaking at the event is Andrew Sherman, a nationally known Washington, D.C.-based attorney.
Sherman will provide an overview for community members interested in investing in a franchise business about opportunities, risks and the rewards of running one's own business and factors to consider in selecting a franchise.
Franchises business opportunities are available in a number of categories including food service such as burger outlets, sandwich and shops. Other options include childcare, fitness, health and beauty, cleaning, business services and more.
The Mandan Tomorrow committee's goal in hosting the seminar is to secure more retail and restaurants in Mandan by presenting citizens with information on ways they can capitalize on the growing economy and serve the community themselves. Committee Chair Rob Knoll explains, "The route to new businesses in Mandan can come from within our community; it is not only a matter of recruiting from the outside."
Purchasing a franchise is an alternative to starting a new, independent business from scratch. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, the success rate for franchise-owned businesses is significantly better than the success rate for many independent businesses, but there is no formula to guarantee success.
On-site registration for the franchise seminar begins at 6:30 p.m. on June 25, with Sherman speaking at 7 p.m. The training session is co-hosted by the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber, the Bismarck-Mandan Development Association, City of Mandan Business Development Office, the North Dakota Small Business Development Centers and the North Dakota Department of Commerce.
Business owners are asked to pre-register by contacting the Chamber at 223-5660 or at www.bismarckmandan.com/events.
Sherman has written 17 books on the legal and strategic aspects of business growth, franchising, capital formation, and the leveraging of intellectual property. He also has published many articles on similar topics and is a frequent keynote speaker at business conferences, seminars and webinars. He has appeared as a guest commentator on CNN, NPR and CBS Radio, among others, and has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, and other publications.
