15 Leaders to Emerge After March 24 Event

Posted on 3/8/2010

Caps and gowns will soon become commonplace as many Bismarck-Mandan residents prepare for pending graduations. From kindergarten programs to senior pomp and circumstance, there is no shortage of graduates and thanks to a local Chamber program, there is no shortage of leaders.

Leadership Bismarck-Mandan (LBM) will graduate 15 students during a commencement program on March 24 at the Seven Seas Hotel & Waterpark in Mandan, N.D. The ceremony, which begins at noon, will celebrate the accomplishments of 15 community members that charted a course to leadership through an exclusive seven-month program.

"Each year, a Chamber committee chooses 15 community members to complete the Leadership program," said Susie Kocourek, program director. "We keep the class small so that we can expose the students to items that are difficult for large groups. Like intimate discussions, business tours and skill building activities."

Students emerging from the program possess strengthened skills and a broadened awareness to be effective, progressive community leaders.

"Leadership Bismarck-Mandan has been an excellent experience," says student David Mason, business banking officer at American Bank Center. "Not only have I met some wonderful leaders in our community, but I have also been exposed to the numerous challenges and opportunities in the Bismarck-Mandan area. I would strongly recommend this program to anyone who wants to start giving back and being involved in the community."

Those graduating this year include:
Alicia Berger, Bismarck State College
Mary Cooper, Aetna
Brian Fettig, MDU
Kara Geiger, ND Community Foundation
Dr. Beth Holwegner, Pathways Chiropractic & Wellness
Melinda Lloyd, ND Guaranty & Title
David Mason, American Bank Center
Emily McKay, Basin Electric
Jeffrey Nelson, Vogel Law Firm
Barb Schantz, Rasmussen College
Tonya Schlaht, Eide Bailly LLP
Mike Schoepp, MDU
Kayla Shafer, Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson
Peter Thiessen, MDU
Randy Ziegler, Bismarck Police Dept.

The 2010 Leadership Graduation ceremony includes a presentation of certificates, student representative speech and lunch. Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased online or by calling 223-5660.

The Chamber congratulates the 2010 class and commends the program's sponsors: Presenting Sponsor - Aetna; and Program Sponsors - Tesoro Mandan Refinery, Tvenge Associates Architects & Planners, P.C. and Al Fitterer Architect P.C. Graduation Sponsors include: Silver Sponsor - North Dakota Guaranty & Title Company; and Table Sponsors - LBMAA, Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson, Eide Bailly LLP, Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Bismarck State College, Vogel Law Firm, Rasmussen College and Pathways Chiropractic.
